Fiancé Visa (K-1)

K-1 Fiancé Visa — Bring Your Loved One Home

The K-1 visa allows the fiancé(e) of a U.S. citizen to enter the United States for the sole purpose of getting married. Once inside the U.S., your fiancé must marry you within 90 days and then apply for a green card through adjustment of status.

The K-1 Process — Step by Step

  • File Form I-129F (Petition for Alien Fiancé)
  • USCIS approves the petition and forwards it to the National Visa Center
  • Your fiancé attends an embassy interview in their home country
  • Your fiancé enters the United States on the K-1 visa
  • You marry within 90 days of entry
  • File Form I-485 to adjust status and receive a green card

Critical Requirements

  • Both parties must be legally free to marry
  • You must have met in person within the past two years
  • You must be a U.S. citizen (not a green card holder)
  • The petitioner must meet minimum income requirements
