Children Green Card

Sponsor Your Child for Permanent Residence

U.S. citizens and permanent residents can sponsor their children for green cards. The process and timeline vary significantly depending on the child’s age, marital status, and whether you are a citizen or a green card holder.

Category Overview

Immediate Relative (Fastest) — Children Under 21, Unmarried, of U.S. Citizens

No annual quota applies. The child can file concurrently for adjustment of status or proceed to consular processing. This is the fastest pathway.

  • F1 — Adult Unmarried Children (21+) of U.S. Citizens
Subject to an annual quota. Expect a wait period based on the current Visa Bulletin.
  • F2A — Spouses and Minor Children of Permanent Residents
Subject to quota but typically shorter wait than other preference categories.
  • F2B — Adult Unmarried Children (21+) of Permanent Residents
Longer wait times due to annual visa limits.
