OPT (Optional Practical Training)

FORMS: Form I-765

Overview

OPT (Optional Practical Training) is up to 12 months of work authorization for F-1 students directly related to their field of study. Pre-completion OPT (during studies) and post-completion OPT (after graduation) are both available. OPT is the bridge between F-1 student status and longer-term work visas (typically H-1B).
