FORMS: Form DS-2019 (issued by sponsor), Form DS-160

Overview

The J-1 visa enables cultural and educational exchange across diverse categories: research scholars, professors, students (college, secondary, summer), camp counselors, au pairs, interns, trainees, physicians, government visitors, and more. Some J-1 holders are subject to a 2-year home residence requirement after their program (Section 212(e)) — restricting return to U.S. work visas without a waiver.

Application Process

Apply through J-1 sponsor; sponsor issues DS-2019; pay SEVIS fee; consular interview; enter U.S. for program participation.

Government Filing Fees
