F4 Sibling of U.S. Citizen

FORMS: Form I-130, Form DS-260 (or I-485)

Overview

F4 is the slowest family-based category — covering siblings of U.S. citizens (and their derivative spouses and minor children). Priority date waits are extreme: 14–18 years for most countries, 20+ years for Mexico, and even longer historically for the Philippines.

Eligibility Requirements

U.S. citizen petitioner age 21+; beneficiary must be sibling (same biological parent or qualifying relationship); derivative beneficiaries included.

Application Process

U.S. citizen files I-130 for sibling. Both petitioner and sibling must share a parent. Wait for priority date currency over many years. When current, principal beneficiary and derivatives proceed with green card processing.

Required Documentation

Both petitioner's and beneficiary's birth certificates showing common parent; petitioner's proof of U.S. citizenship; and derivative documentation.

Government Filing Fees

I-130 fee; later I-485 or visa fees.

Processing Timeline

Priority date wait 14–20+ years.
