F2B Unmarried Adult Child of LPR

Overview

F2B is for unmarried adult sons and daughters (21+) of Lawful Permanent Residents. Unlike F2A (current), F2B has significant priority date backlogs — typically 6–10 years for most countries, with longer waits for Mexico. If the petitioner naturalizes during the wait, the case converts to F1 (with petitioner's election option).

Eligibility Requirements

LPR petitioner; unmarried adult child 21+; valid parent-child relationship.

Application Process

LPR files Form I-130. Wait for priority date current. Beneficiary must remain unmarried throughout wait. If LPR naturalizes, case converts to F1 unless beneficiary opts to remain in F2B (sometimes faster).
